I use Ubuntu Linux pretty much full time (that is, I only use another OS when I am not using my computer).
Because of that, I pretty much use heaps of other F/OSS software too. Like Pidgin. It's awesome, especially for the #ppnz IRC channel.

I tried to get Ubuntu going on my PC Craptop. It killed the trackpad drivers and screwed up the startup sequence.
I'm hoping if I nuke it on a clean install of windows 7, I'll get the trackpad back.

I've never had any problems on my macs though.

I have a linux-based server that I've never been able to stay working for more than 5 minutes, I just need a USB SATA dock to wipe the drives.

Have decided that ubuntu is not compatible with my laptop's main purpose of being a wireless capable computer that just works.
The only open source software I trust is Open Office, Java and the projects I'm developing.
Not really counting OS X as open source, as the useful parts are not open source.

However, I have played with a few open source games before which were almost as polished as commercial games.

And Firefox, I presume?

Firefox is almost useful if you have a spare gig of Virtual Ram. I prefer being able to run about 40-60 tabs in 1 window on my old G5 iMac.

I don't understand why you would want 40-60 tabs open anyway
(Though, I have had ~50 tabs open at a time, maybe).


I did managed to get 596 tabs open (before I decided to exit) in Firefox. Screenshot too!

I usually grab about 40 to 60 tabs of news articles and then start downloading torrents. By the time I've read them I find I have pulled enough down.

However all this should change, as tomorrow I'll have the Bittorrent server back with 1TB mirrored. Hopefully I'll get the thing going right this time
I think the most tabs I've had going was 150 odd in one wide window. That was back when I only had a 10mb connection.

We were talking about meetings in another thread. If anyone is going to Linux Conf Au in Wellington in January, we should look at having a BOF session on the Pirate Party.

I use Firefox Vlc puppy Linux Sumatra(PDF veiwer) and a few others. Personally open source software has always worked better for me then software that I have bought\pirated that is closed source.

Now have the latest ubuntu on my laptop, very good. Now all I need is to get the damn drives for the server going.
As for early open source usage, I was remixing open source games back in 1984.
