Hi All,

I've been reading a number of posts today about the party taking up stated positions on policies other than the core policies already expressed by PPNZ.

Two things come to mind on this subject. First, that we need to take at least some action to at least identify and collate the concerns being raised. Second, as a fledgling party we need to get some of the basics in place (like deciding whether the PPNZ actually will take such positions and, if so, how) before we can do anything else...

...so here's my suggestion.

Create an area in the wiki called "Draft policy statements". Allow contributors to identify a concern (such as the use of urgency to pass bills) and then create any number of draft policy statements for future review.

Once the party has made its decision on how to deal with and select supporting policy statements we will have a good amount of the work already captured and collated.

Why wiki? Because in my experience forums are not structured enough for capturing this type of information.

Thoughts?

Great idea!

Obviously the danger is getting distracted from established core policies, especially before the 500 member requirement is met, but a clearly defined procedure for debating, voting on proposed polices/positions (if that is indeed the agreed method as suggested elsewhere on the board) would at least give party members a "voice" incomparably superior to other parties - and surely one of the fundamental, underlying principals of the PPNZ.

Regards,

-Chris.

Thanks for the feedback.

In the interests of keeping things moving I'll see what other feedback gets posted between now and Friday. That will give at least the more active members a chance to review and provide feedback. Unless someone is strongly against this approach I'll update the wiki accordingly.

regards,
Michael.

There needs to be a discussion about the use of urgency to pass the skynet bill?

Does anyone here think that was appropriate use of urgency powers?

Discussion over!

Hahaha!
Nice.

There was a good article in the [shudder] NZ Herald about this Government's use of Urgency to pass questionable legislation.

Cannot recall the figures, but the number of items was staggering.

Curiously (unless I just missed it) that list doesn't even mention the 'skynet' bill .. what else is missing?

Does anyone feel like drafting a press release about this? Our position would basically be that bills should only be passed under urgency when the matter is actually urgent.. Even the Christchurch Relief bill is questionable, it's been months since the earthquake. Was it really that urgent or just an excuse to slip through some other legislation too?

I'd be happy to give it a go and submit a draft to the forum for critique - however I'd like to get a LOT more intimately aquainted with the micro-details first.

Ignorant political commentators infuriate me - I don't want to be one of them!

BTW, I'm sure you've all seen this, being the loyal Slashdotters I imagine many of us are, but: http://torrentfreak.com/ip-address-not- ... ys-110503/

Also, here's a link to the "Skynet" legislation submission page (irrelevant now but has link to .pdf of bill):

FYI: Here's another reference to "Skynet" - one Labour & one National, both young, female, politicans commenting on the bill:

Article published today.

Hi all,

Work's got me tied up at present, so no progress on the above, but in case you missed it, Crhis Barton has written a nicely summarised article here which may be of assistance in a press release or general "laymen's" overviews of what/why/how of the PPNZ's policies.

Cheers,
