Hi everyone,

I'd like to be endorsed by the PPNZ. I have some friends that are interested in getting together to get the 500 members organized. I also want to be endorsed because I can see a huge growth potential going into this new year with the Sky net bill being passed and all those notices which are going to be set out. I think if we can ride we the wave of backlash that these notices are going to make we can secure a lot of support.

I want to be endorsed now for the next election in the Helensville electorate because I feel that there's currently a lack of direction within the party, and I'd like to be part of a team that can make things happen and make people aware of what we stand for as a political party.

I'll front the cost and do my own paper work.

What do we need to do to make this happen now?

I'd guess it would need to be the same process as for selecting candidates--the board agrees to run a vote, and the members decide. I expect the board would probably be happy to run a vote if it looks like this could be done in time, so I suggest you introduce yourself in this thread the same way as the contestants did in the thread Contestants & Discussions.

"A time machine" ?

If you're not already on the ballot as an independent, it's too late to do anything now.

If you are standing as an independent and have had the paperwork approved, perhaps a few of us (Me and Tommy at least) could all meet up tomorrow and get to know you better. It does sound like you're the sort of person we need to get into a leadership role in the party but first I'd want to know your take on all aspects of the PPNZ policy and how well you can present it.

It may even be possible to switch your already accepted nomination from Independent to Pirate Party, you'll have to ask your returning officer about that.

Final list of Candidates in Hellensville:

Well, He's not there.

If Phil Goff ends up being PM in the next parliament, expect a by-election in Hellensville and make sure you don't miss the PPNZ candidate nominations for it. I don't imagine there will be much competition tbh.

I'm not looking get endorsed for this election but next election. I want to be endorsed before I start any marketing or promotion so that everyone understands what I represent before I begin the campaign.

I know it's too late this time around, but we can definitely start getting new members and encourage participation in the mean time. Specifically I'd like to help us reach the 500 member mark and spark some activity around the university campuses which is where I think most of our support and constituents will be sourced from.

I think it'd be a great idea to start a young pirates campaign and try to energize this party. There's a lot great ideas here but I think we could use someone driving the marketing of the party towards a targeted audience. I'm familiar with all of the PPNZ's policies I am myself a huge supporter of net neutrality, piracy and copyright reform.

As soon as I get endorsed I'm going to start gaining members immediately. I just wanted to meet Tommy and the others first to confirm their confidence and to recieve feedback from the rest of the party.

Right, well 2014 is a long time away. Hell, even a by-election would be a long time away. Possibly long enough that the people in charge now won't be any more.

Besides, candidate selections are decided by the membership, not the board etc. so whatever we may say, it's no indication. Having said that, the membership has a record of being very supportive of everyone wanting to run, and I don't see why that would change.

If you're willing to jump in to the deep end, we're looking for an Undersecretary to help Mark out with the database etc. (confidentiality agreement required).

I would be happy to meet you and other pirate-sympathetic people, though I would feel better talking about things more in the present.

  • THIS election and supporting the candidates we do have (material, hoardings, campaigning)
  • How to get the most out of the election re members (which you said)
  • Getting Young Pirates going is a good one too (which you said)
  • Getting in touch with the people who have already joined (membership cards, official acknowledgement). We've been rather useless at this so far.
  • Catching up on the things we were meant to do but never got around to
  • Getting local chapters of PPNZ running (just to the point where they know each other and occasionally meet up)

So you want to make a time? tommyf@pirateparty.org.nz, or probably better to arrange it via the Auckland chapter mailing list and try get some other people along too. (Mailing List Info)
