Subject says it all. Well, mostly... The domain now displays the message "SO I HURD U LIEK PIRATE PARTIES" below a picture of two (fairly well toned, I'd have to say) apparently homosexual men wearing 'pirate' hats (with a fluffy trim) and little else. (Am I the first to notice this?)

A Google search on "link:pirateparty.net.nz" shows up a couple of sites that include links to <http://pirateparty.net.nz/>:
  • <http://notwhatbutwho.blogspot.com/> (every page) (EDIT: fixed - P)
  • <http://wn.com/Pirate_Party_(Sweden)> (Wikipedia > Pirate Party Sweden > External links > Other Pirate parties)
but misses links on these sites that I found by myself:
  • <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party_(Sweden)> (EDIT: fixed - P)
  • <http://int.piratenpartei.de/Pirate_Party_of_New_Zealand> (EDIT: fixed - P)
so I'm sure there are more.

I also found a couple of links on the PPNZ wiki main page, which I've already changed to the corresponding .org domain.

I understand from this post that the Pirate Party originally used the .net domain, and switched to .org, having also considered .co: <http://pirateparty.org.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27&view=viewpoll>.
and the .org domain seems to me the appropriate choice for these reasons:
  • According to <http://dnc.org.nz/content/secondleveldomains.html>, .co is for 'Organisations pursuing commercial aims and purposes', .net for 'Organisations and service providers directly related to the NZ Internet', and .org for 'Not-for-profit organisations'. Of these, .org is probably the most appropriate. (The Pirate Party aims to change laws relating to the Internet, but I suspect this would be considered an indirect rather than a direct relation to the Internet, so would not fall under the scope of .net.)
  • Looking at the web site links on PPI <http://int.piratenpartei.de/Main_Page>, .org seems the most prevalent classification for Pirate Parties (.org 10, .com/.co 6, .net 1, .biz 1 -- note that PPNZ is included in the .com/.co count here, not the .org count, because it's listed under the .co domain, and although there are 23 pirate party domains with no classification besides a country code, this is not applicable to New Zealand)
  • Looking at the web site links for registered NZ political parties <http://www.elections.org.nz/elections/registers/registered-political-parties.html>, .org seems to be the most prevalent classification (.org 13, .com 2, and 1 with no web site)

It's still owned by Luke, he has tried to sell it to us (at a profit to him, of course), I wouldn't give him the satisfaction. He has threatened to put this kind of crap on the domain for a while and so I guess he finally followed through. I'm still not going to bow to his wishes.

Just noticed another wrong link. The heading(/description?) of the (inactive) New Zealand discussion board on the PPI website.

I've asked them to update it. I'm only a moderator there, I can delete spam but not change our forum description..

[ UPDATE: They've fixed it now ]
