Provisional Agenda:

    • appoint people in charge of specific campuses
  • Graphics discussion
    • logo developments
    • media 'unit' plans - other design work coming up, who and when to help out on it
  • Reconsider the membership term. (extend it to something closer to 3 years)
  • Policy Committee
    • Changes to scope of Policy Committee
    • Set electoral term of Policy Committee, next election planned for 11-18 March
  • Audit suggestion - should help new volunteers understand the current situation
  • Local / Young Pirates meetings and elections to be held afterwards

More will be added to this over the next few days

see this topic for more up-to-date info.

OLD POST FROM DECEMBER 2011

This meeting will be held at 2pm on Saturday 10 December 2011.
This meeting will take place in #ppnz (link)
I expect this meeting to take about 2 hours, and be finished by 5pm, allowing for a late start.

Agenda:
1) Elections for Secretary (required by the Constitution since the Acting Secretary was appointed)
2) A Status Update and explanation of Young Pirates NZ. (just starting 2 weeks before this SGM)
3) Discussion and Motions about the use of the title "Leader" of PPNZ and possible Elections for "Leader". (Currently the title "Co-Leader" is unofficial and refers to all members of the Policy Committee)
4) Depending on numbers, appoint people to organize local Chapters for Waikato and/or Wellington
5) Membership consultation about requirements for potential new Party Membership data management systems. - Do we need to go beyond what other NZ political parties do? if so how much?
6) Investigate changes to the Policy Committee structure and process
7) Adding Flattr to the website. (incl legal restrictions around large donations, anonymous donations, overseas donations)

Anyone may request another Item to add to the agenda in the comments.
I request that anyone planning to make a motion indicate in the comments by noon on the day.
I reserve the right to disallow motions otherwise, to prevent the meeting taking forever.

Firstly: I nominate the Acting Secretary Mark Brown for Secretary. (can someone second that). Candidates can be nominated in-meeting, but it would be preferable to announce it here beforehand.

Secondly, I plan to make a motion to create a separate position of "Party Leader" who can be appointed by SGM motion, or by unanimous agreement of the Policy Committee. The may be a member of the Policy Committee, but does not need to be.

This motion is just an idea so far, and I would welcome other suggestions.

I am hoping someone else will come up with questions or motions about the 5th item.

Ok, default motion for the 5th item:

"The Pirate Party should adopt the standard practice for online membership databases of political parties in New Zealand"

If anyone disagrees, counter-motions are welcome.

I'm not sure what standard practise is, do other parties keep membership records online? I think that's a large risk. It would be a major problem if our webserver was hacked and the membership database became public.

Some concerns;
Scanned membership forms are currently archived in several pirate party email accounts. I hope that most of us are using 2-factor or at least very good, non-shared passwords.

Eventually I would like to get both our mail and membership onto their own virtual servers, well separated from the public website. The server is more than capable of supporting this, and I'm looking into the availability of IPv4 addresses.

we have two new motions I want to get passed, I will have them in formal writing soon. The first I haven't formulated quite yet, the second asks for a proper review of our policy strategy by the Policy committee and an analysis of the German pirate party system and submissions towards the expansion of the policy agenda...

I'll add this to the end of the agenda as well.

Id like to add to the agenda the idea of adding a Flattr (http://flattr.com/) button to our website for receiving donations and helping publicise the service in general. Its a micropayment service but just to be on the safe side, if we do add it, we should also include disclaimer about about large donation amounts.

Embed Social Plugins only indirectly!
(Privacy Commission's ongoing investigation)

If a Flattr button is directly embedded on our site the following information about every visitor is transferred to Flattr without their informed consent: IP Address, contents of Flattr's persistent Cookies, Session ID (if logged in to Flattr), User Agent, Browser, Render Engine, Operating System, Architecture, Display Resolution, Java & Flash Version, Color Depth, etc. This enables Flattr to identify each visitor through Cookie contents or System's Uniqueness Analysis (https://panopticlick.eff.org/) even when the visitor is not logged in to Flattr. From the vast array of cookies that Flattr places at least five are persistent due to their expiry date being from six months to five years in the future.

This is exactly the same problematic and privacy invasive issue posed by Facebook social plugins (http://pirateparty.org.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1029). And yes, it does not matter if the services that offer these social plugins claim that they are not using this information for tracking or profiling purposes (like Flattr does: http://the-gay-bar.com/2010/05/06/on-flattr-and-privacy-the-flattr-button/). The problem is that websites that have directly implemented social plugins are passing private information on to someone else. The Privacy Commission is currently investigating this matter (http://www.scribd.com/doc/74992702/PrivacyActComplaint-SocialPlugins).

There are easy ways to implement social plugin indirectly and asking the visitor for an informed consent before the social plugin is presented (e.g. http://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/2-Klicks-fuer-mehr-Datenschutz-1333879.html)

So is there a way to display the button with the image and javascript hosted locally so that we know nothing is sent to flattr unless a person intentionally clicks on the button? If so I'd like to do that, and have a link next to the button explaining how we display the button without introducing those privacy issues and why we've done that..

I'd prefer that to a two-click solution, click once to display the button then actually click the button, but that would also be acceptable.

Is anyone actually planning to make a motion on Flattr? or is it just a discussion and then leave it up to the board/next year to do anything about it?

both are perfectly acceptable. The priority over the holiday will likely be the YPNZ system anyway.
