I've just updated phpbb. This may introduce some new features, and with any luck it will slow the number of spam registrations we get constantly.

I've also pruned the membership database. I did take some care to check the email and registration IP of each user before I purged them so hopefully I've only removed bot registrations and not any genuine users...

Let me know if there are any problems related to the update, or if your login was accidentally deleted and you had to make a new one.

Installed a new anti-spam mod yesterday, also changed the captcha test to a Q&A. We need a larger body of questions, if anyone feels like writing a whole lot I'll add them to the database.

Also I just purged all inactive users, and then checked through the remaining registrations for the last two months and deleted all the spambots. The board now seems very confused, the member list and total member count are both wrong (and don't agree with each other) but all of the more recent members that I checked still seem to be valid. I'm hoping this problem will correct itself eventually. [ edit: found the option to regenerate this.. ]

Also I just noticed we have no backups since May .. [edit: set up nightly backups again ]
